Southern Nazarene University (SNU) and Quetzal Education Research Center (QERC) take the health and safety of every student participating in our study abroad program very seriously and therefore may cancel a program in order to ensure students’ safety. QERC administration regularly monitors U.S. State Department international travel advisories and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Should a program cancellation become necessary for health and safety reasons prior to student departure, every effort will be made to refund recoverable costs to participants. The time of program cancellation will determine the actual recoverable costs. The closer the program is to the start date the less recoverable costs will be available. For example, 3 months before the program starts, funds have usually already been paid to many hotels for deposits on housing. These deposits would be considered non-recoverable.

Should a program cancellation become necessary for health and safety reasons after students have arrived overseas, our refund policy is that every effort will be made to refund recoverable costs to the participants. Additionally, the QERC Director and/or QERC Managers will, to the best of his/her ability, assist students in completing the coursework for the program.

If a student decides to withdraw from the QERC program or a student’s actions no longer makes them eligible for the program after they are in the country, costs are non-refundable.

If a student decides to withdraw from the program or if the program is canceled by QERC leadership he/she is still responsible for transportation back to his/her home institution.
