Meals

Monday through Friday, lunch and dinner are prepared by a local cook. Meals are served buffet style, so students can pick and choose what they’d like to eat. Typical Costa Rican food is served (rice, beans, vegetables, chicken or fish) on a regular basis, but occasionally other more U.S.-style meals are served. It’s important that you come with a flexible attitude towards trying new foods- as that is an important part of engaging any culture.

Breakfast items are available each day for students to prepare their own meal. We have things like oatmeal, cereal, eggs, bread, and fruits available each morning.

On the weekends, students prepare their own lunches. Dinner on Saturday night is prepared by a rotating pair of students- so be sure to being some of your favorite recipes from home! On Sunday night, dinner is eaten at a rotation of local restaurants.

Dietary Restrictions
QERC will do it’s best to provide you with the meals that fit your dietary restrictions- however, understand that QERC is located in a rural part of a foreign country that is does not widely supply restrictive dietary supplies. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free meals are easily provided.
